Learn the five dental consonants and hear them against the retroflex group.

Learn the five labial consonants, made with the lips.

   Write का, की, गा, गी five times each. Then read aloud: का की गा गी.

Teach matra ि as the sole left-attaching matra, contrast कि and की.

   ि is the ONLY matra written to the LEFT of its consonant. Show कि — the ि sits left of क, not below or above. Contrast: कि (ki) vs की (kee).

   Write कि five times — ensure ि is placed to the LEFT of क. Then write की five times — ी attaches to the right. Say each aloud: कि (ki), की (kee).

Introduce ँ and ू as below-consonant matras, then read and write simple combinations.

Introduce the four right-side matras ◌े ै ो ौ and attach them to क, then read formed syllables.

   Write के कै को कौ five times each, saying the sound aloud each time. Then read: के कै को कौ.
